What is AMPP inspection about
Mikris can offer a wide range of AMPP certified tests and documentation for your project
NACE and SSPC are now AMPP, The Association for Materials Protection and Performance
Mikris has a on-site AMPP Certified Coatings Inspector – Level 3 that can perform tests or can discuss your required specifications with you and will provide appropriate documentation.
Mikris can conform to many standards – BS EN ISO, ASTM, SSPC, AMPP see below for examples.
All of our equipment is calibrated/verified to national/international standards.
Blast profile
This determines the amplitude of the blasting using either a surface comparator or the more reliable way of using testex tape and a digital reader that will give you a more accurate reading using averages over a small area
The standards this testing complies to are as follows : BS EN ISO 8503-1, BS EN ISO 8503-4, BS EN ISO 8503-5
Surface Cleanliness
Chloride test / salt test
This is to determine the level of any water soluble contaminants on the substrate or blasting media either by the Bresle method or conductivity.
Dust Test
This is the assessment of dust on the substrate using the pressure sensitive tape method.
The standards this testing complies to are as follows :
BS EN ISO 8502-6, BS EN ISO 8502-9, BS EN ISO 11127-6, BS EN ISO 8502-3
Wet Film Thickness
This is a method of checking the correct required thickness of paint has been achieved while paint is still wet using a wet film gauge.
The standards this testing complies to are as follows : BS EN ISO 2808.
Dry Film Thickness ( DFT )
For this we use a calibrated electrical gauge that uses magnetic and eddy current principles. At mikris we use a Defelsko Positector that will provide us with a very reliable DFT on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This also provides us with a minimum, maximum and average reading that can be recorded on your coating report at the end of the project.
Some of the standards this testing complies to are as follows : BS EN ISO 2808, BS EN ISO 19840, SSPC-PA2, ASTM D1640-3
Adhesion Testing
This is what is known as a destructive test in the world of AMPP and the rest of the painting industry. This can either be Hydraulic Pull-Off Test or a Cross Cut Test and can be carried out on a “test coupon” painted at the same time as the project or on the project itself. This test determines how well the paint has adhered to the substrate and also the inter coat adhesion. The results are logged on the coating report at the end of the project.
The standards this testing complies to are as follows : BS EN ISO 4624, BS EN ISO 2409, BS EN ISO 16276-1, ASTM D3359-02, ASTM D4541-09
Hoilday Testing
Electrical testing to determine the presence and number of discontinuities in a coating. This is carried out using a low-voltage wet sponge test.
Some of the standards this test complies to are as follows: NACE SP0188
Environmental Conditions
The environmental conditions (air temperature, surface temperature, humidity and dew point) are monitored and recorded during the blasting and painting process.
Some of the standards this references are as follows: BS EN ISO 8502-4
Other testing
Mikris has many other tests that can be performed, for example Air Cleanliness, Rust Grade, Visual assessment of Surface Cleanliness, Solvent Rub, Water Break Test and Resistance to Impact. if you cant see what you are looking for please do not hesitate to get in touch today.
